Looks like someone hit the mark. A-Net wins the award for the biggest, laziest sods right now.
(Hey, someone remind me, why are they even making GW2 right now? As opposed to continuing work on the current game.)

Perfect, now that this issue isn't a distraction anymore, lets add some real content into the game, like quests to start the story transition into GW2?

thought that was what eotn was?
aint surprised xth aint coming back, but seriously, 8 f*cking months to say "errrrrrr, nope, its broken, cant be arsed fixing it, put out a PR"
astounds me some of the moves that anet seem to be doing.
i love guildwars, i really really do, but lately, its like EVERYTHING you do brings a giggle and a "wtf were they thinking"

Nice to see some clarification.
But seriously, if you want RPs form a team of 8 and enter an AT. Believe it or not its easy to win against a team of henchmen and afk people.

I'm sorry ANet, but this is about all I can stand.
They might be getting their priorities straight, but I've got nothing nice to say about an organization that repeatedly promises one thing, but delivers something else or nothing at all (after many, many months).
It's not that I'm terribly upset about the things they've done in the past, (taking HB, TA and XTH as recent examples), but rather the abysmal way in which they've handled them over and over again.
If ANet had even a modicum of self-awareness, they should have put it to use. I don't know yet whether or not I can buy GW2 knowing I should expect the same kind of chain-yanking I got in this game, but for the sake of your other customers my advice is simple: KNOW what you're capable of, and don't promise anything more, but DELIVER on what you do promise.
It ain't that god damn hard really. You wouldn't even have to do any extra work, but the honesty would have gone a long way.

Anet will probably release some new information about GW2 in a week or so in an attempt to sooth us

I don't know why people always get this upset about ANYTHING coming from Anet.
I can't see "promises" in any of their announcements, be it about the XTH or balance updates.
That said, I agree they could have handled those kind of situations a lot better, but please, don't be so over-reactive...

I think folks are more upset about the way this is handle then 'milking' free stuff.
It is like taking your car that has a problem to the garage and they say sorry we cannot fix it because we are working on the next model. Come back and buy the new one.
GW2 does not have any customers, GW does, manage your customers and they will come but increasingly upset them and you will lose customers for GW2 when you do release it.
Removing features and content is not the way forward, and to be honest this is not about resources it is about money, what Anet is saying they are not prepared to pay to fix the XTH, come to GW2 though because we will treat you better? Joke.

I think it's the right decision. And I also think they took so long because they somehow hoped they could make the community a nice surprise and bring it back. They could've just said "no we won't fix it" from start if they didn't intend to fix it at all.
And as a player that benefited from it, I also think it wasn't quite right. Whenever I got the XTH benefits I felt more or less like cheating.
So I think they took the right decision here.

As others, I knew it wasnt coming back - I think the final death sign was the removal of the NPC. The fact of leaving it for so many months was anet doing an out of sight - out of mind thing, hoping that the uproar of something being removed would be much lower. Once HB left too, then it was half of the predictions gone anyway...
AS someone who gained more than most from XTH, will I miss it of course, but I wont miss waking up early on Sat to see who qualified in the last AT so I could amend my predictions before they were locked. I wont miss the cash, Snowball ATs set me up for the rest of the year anyway ^.^
Im just kinda sad that the choice of gameplay is being narrowed (removal of HB and TA for *cough* codex wilderness), while we are being used as guinea pigs for things such as codex so they can see how they can use it in GW2 and everything else is left to rot....

Im sorry, but I believe you to be wrong here. Being one of the people who always had many accounts - I always had an error somewhere or other in their calculations, to the point that I had my own spreadsheet set up calculating what I was to expect from each month so I had the info ready to send to support. They were always able to adjust the distribution for the following month to give the missing points to me, so I believe the distribution method was not the main issue.
They "could" give us the May points, but Im thinking that it would take significant manual intervention at this stage with XTH gone, which Im sure will be the reason why they wont.

I dont think of it like that at all, like some others have mentioned, it got me observing and discussing various guilds and HBers and trying to make an informed prediction (ofc the randomness of pairings always made me curse though..lol).

Thank you Regina for the update.
As for the undistributed points, my viewpoint is that it's a wash with the extra points we received several times. Believe me, if ArenaNet could have found an economical way to fix the XTH, they would have. Look at all the future GA members who ran out and bought extra games just to get more points. It was supplying great cash flow for the company.

Back to the old Zaishen Elite method for getting keys. 2 a day is kinda slow but they add up after a while.

I made more in the two or three weeks of Snowball ATs than you could possibly make in a year and a half of doing that, and it probably required me to spend less time at it than your method.
My hint to anyone: Better start practicing how to play the arena when Wintersday in July rolls around.

Well at least zkeys went back to the old 5k/each, I'm hoping now that the input of keys in the game has nearly halted, they'll go up a bit more. Still have 80ish in my chest that need to be sold.

Not like anyone was expecting it to come back....I hope.
I just hope we don't get this kind of support in GW2 (although I doubt it, we have like 5 people working on GW1? We'll have a full team for GW2)

I know, Anet could add another micro transaction. Maybe something like $5 gets you 50 keys or something. That way they could afford to fix the XTH.

Would it truly be that much work to revert back to the system that worked fine for more than a year?
Was the 'improvement' actually a ploy to provide a reason to close the XTH permenately? That's what is looks like from this end...just sayin'

Xunlai Tournament House News (Updated 8/28)
Update from Linsey Murdock:
Xunlai Tournament House Update
We now have an accurate list of XTH winners from the May monthly predictions and are in the planning stages to distribute those points. We’ll need to deploy some new code to upgrade the system, which requires a bit of delicate timing. Part of this deployment must occur through a build, but some of it will happen automatically on the servers. During this time, if anyone speaks to Kun Shao, it could disrupt the system and garble up the list.
To address the issue, we’ll be doing this in three stages: first, a Live build to remove Kun Shao from outposts to prevent him from interfering; then, a second build to deploy the upgraded code and distribute the points; and finally, a third build to reintroduce Kun Shao so that you may redeem those points. As a thank you for all your patience, we’ll be giving everyone on the distribution list a free bump to the next-highest reward bracket.
So when will Kun Shao be reintroduced so we can redeem the points that you stated had been correctly calculated? Now that the system has been officially retired the next step would be to distribute the points.

Would that be so unreasonable? It didn't have problems we were made publicly aware of until it was changed over. Of course that's also the same time the script kiddies released a way to automate bets at the click of a mouse. What a joke of a system it was...hop on Guru to get half-assed predictions, copy/paste, run script towards the end of the month and get free money. Good riddance.

XTH was the only reason I bothered with observer mode and actually looking at PvP data on the guildwars website. Disappointed to see this not coming back but I chalk it up as yet another failure of anet. If you can't properly support your existing game, do you really expect me to support your new game whenever it comes out? (XTH is only one of the things I don't see anet supporting, btw.)
Is GW2 going to be a fubar as GW1? If so, I'll save my money.
